How true this post is when it comes to us spoiled Americans. My mother who is of Jamaican origins has been saying the same thing for years. She came to this country through Canada with next to nothing and fought her way through nursing school and now has two masters degrees. You are so right by saying we have nothing to complain about and should be so very very thankful we live in this great country.

I watched a story on a PBS channel that showed people so poor and hungry in Haiti they eat dirt cookies every day. I, in turn can walk over to my garbage can and see the food I throw away and I feel ashamed because there are people in parts of the world that would literally kill for the food we all waste.

These are not hard times for us. We as Americans are truly blessed and we need to thank our Creator for the honor and privilege to live here.

Thanks for the reality check.

Great piece. I've wrestled with the same thoughts and have vowed to slap myself for even thinking that times are harder than I might like. Spoiled? You bet.
