Jim Cathcart comes from the financial services industry. He has worked in banking, securities and insurance. His first job after his marriage in 1970 was as a salesperson for IDS, selling mutual funds and insurance.

Later on Jim became an agent and served as sales trainer for Massachusetts Mutual in Tulsa, Oklahoma (1977-1982). During the time he was with that agency they won the President’s Trophy twice! Their sales grew from $17 million per year to over $100 million per year with no increase in the number of agents. This led to 30 other consulting/speaking assignments for Massachusetts Mutual agencies and their home office. As a former banker Jim has worked in data processing, installment loans, and as a teller at three banks in Arkansas. In the 1980-90s he served as a member of the American Bankers Association Executive Development Program Faculty (five years). He authored two special reports for the ABA published in their Competitech series, one on Executive Stress, the other on Customer Service Management. He also authored a training manual on Personal Financial Planning for the U.S. Jaycees. Jim has been featured in the Legacy of Learning on the topic of Strategic Planning for Agencies, 1979, and authored feature articles in Life Association News on three occasions, Managers Magazine (LIMRA), and the Digest of Financial Planning Ideas. In 1997, Jim was a main platform keynoter for the Million Dollar Round Table.

As a frequent speaker in the “Meetings Industry”, Jim has been well known for some time among leaders in the Hospitality field.

Jim’s son is the Director of Human Resources for a 5 star hotel and has worked in this industry for more than a decade and a half. This provides Jim (Sr.) with special insights into the challenging situations and a current understanding of issues that most speakers and consultants would not be aware of.

*ASAE booked Jim for multiple national conference keynotes and also retained him to create training programs on member service. * Benchmark, a conference center leader hired Jim to train them in assessing their talents. He spent a week at their National Sales Meeting and later trained their corporate staff in “The Art of Choosing Well.” ** After addressing a meeting of the General Managers in Banff Springs, Canada, Jim created a special video on Managing Customer Service for use throughout the CP system. This was prior to their purchase of the Fairmont Hotels. *** For almost a decade Jim Cathcart conducted seminars and delivered speeches for various groups of Fairmont personnel. His most frequent audiences have been the sales departments and their National Sales Conferences.

Music Industry

Jim Cathcart is also a professional musician: singer/songwriter. One client hired him to be the featured speaker at an international forum in Caracas, Venezuela for 800 business leaders. During the break in Jim’s 3 hour seminar he brought a guitar on stage and started performing popular rock & roll hits from the 60s and 70s. The audience quickly came back into the room and commenced to sing along…in English! They knew all the songs too. Jim got a standing ovation for his performance during the break and again for the rest of his seminar. Since then Jim has performed at Conventions, Parties, Special Events, Art Festivals, in Night Clubs, Restaurants, Bars and House Concerts around the world. His ‘band name’ is “ReZoom The Boom!” and friends often join him on stage. NAMM: the National Association of Music Merchants, is the biggest event in the music industry each year. These conventions draw 100,000 people to Anaheim and a huge crowd to Nashville as well. Jim has attended or presented at four recent NAMM Shows and has conducted sales & management training for a variety of music industry businesses. Kaman Music Company (KMC) & Seymour Duncan are among his clients. Since 2011 Jim has toured the Martin Guitars Factory in Nazareth, PA; the Gibson Factory in Memphis; the Taylor Factory in El Cajon, CA and Seymour Duncan’s factory in Santa Barbara, CA. As a performer Jim Cathcart brings not only his guitar and singing talent but also his 40 years as a speaker and trainer. Jim is happily comfortable on stage and really knows how to “work a room!” For details on the music side of Jim go to: www.GuitarMusicLive.com and see some of the videos, hear the audios and review his song list of hundreds of your favorite hits.
