So come with me and let's discover how much more successful you could be. Hello, I'm Jim Cathcart. Welcome to the Wisdom Parlor. For five years when I lived in California, I hosted a parlor discussion at a country club out there. I wanted to get to know the other people and I didn't want to go through the usual social dance. Hi, how are you? What, where are you from? You know, what do you do for a living? I wanted to have deeper discussions sooner in meeting new people. So I went to the country club and I said, I will host a series of parlor discussions if you will provide the catering and promote it to the membership and provide a, you know, beautiful meeting facility. And they said, sure. So I ended up over several years doing 39 of those. I brought in celebrities. I brought in best selling authors, philosophers, business leaders, the commander of the space shuttle, celebrities, entertainers, songwriters, Grammy Award winners. I mean, just an amazing array of the people that I know and had a chance to gain some access to. And I would bring them in. We would sit down in a parlor, beautiful parlor, and we'd sit in easy chairs and there'd be anywhere from a dozen to 30 of us. And I would say, here's our guest for the evening and he or she is going to set the tone for our topic. But this is not a lecture series. Our guest is merely going to present some ideas and then we're all going to jump in because there's more wisdom around this room than, than there is addressing this room from any one of these chairs. So we did that and had two hour discussions and they were fabulous. Really led to some great friendships, some fascinating insights, and all kinds of wonderful experiences. Well, that was long ago in California. Today I live in Austin, Texas. I'm still a professional speaker and author. I've written 25 books. You may know me for Relationship selling, which is one of the most successful of all my books. Another that's done well all around the world is the Acorn Principle. I've written High Rev for Small Business with my friend Dennis Madden. I wrote Intelligent Curiosity with my friend Lisa Patrick, the Self Motivation Handbook, and more recently, Mentor minutes have even contributed chapters to Chicken Soup for the soul. So, 25 books written and published. I've got books with McGraw Hill and Prentice hall and Simon and Schuster and St. Martin's Press and Nightingale Conant Corporation and any number of major publishers in New York City and around the world. So what? Well, it just means I've got a lot of material to draw from because for the past 46 years I've been a professional speaker and author traveling the world, delivering lectures and doing keynote speeches at major conventions to hundreds of thousands of people. I'm very, very active online. You can find me almost anywhere. Just type in Jim Cathcart and one of the things that I've wanted to do in recent years with all this experience and all the wonderful friendships and colleague relationships I've developed, is I've wanted to bring people together on a regular basis in in depth discussions like the old Sherwood Parlor. And I decided to create a podcast called Wisdom Parlor and to invite my many colleagues and friends and invite the public as well to get together to talk about important ideas. So Wisdom Parlor is a gathering of interesting people discussing important ideas. And it's not a lecture series as I said in in the earlier versions, nor is this an interview program like most podcasts. Yes, I'll have guests that I feature a bit, but most of the podcast is intended to be an open discussion. If you have a depth of knowledge and expertise and you come to the table as a professional expert in your particular niche, I encourage you to raise your hand, ask your question, pose your comments. If you are not at that level but you would like to participate anyway, feel free in the chat to drop questions for us to ponder or address or comments that you'd like us to know about. Please don't use the forum for any kind of self promotion. Simply stick to the idea that's in the discussion and contribute where appropriate. And we'll post these for replay so that you can get the show notes. With links and other resources you can learn how to reach the people that are involved in the discussion and I'm going to be your host. Your ongoing host. I formed recently, recently being 2023 the Experts Academy. The Experts Academy is a year long program where I guide people through the process of acquiring and developing the clarity, confidence and courage they need to become a leading expert in their chosen niche. Personally, I have started at the bottom of three different fields and risen to the very top 1% of those fields through dedicated application across the areas that I consider essential for professional expertise. Now this is not technical expertise like working on the mechanics of something or medical or legal expertise or accounting expertise. This is the expertise that cuts across all those categories. Expertise in the field of human relations, self awareness, interpersonal communication, public communication, using the media effectively and wisely, sales, leadership management, self management, understanding psychology, understanding, decision making and problem solving techniques. See, when you develop those skills, then that's kind of like you've got a bank of elevators and each one is a different field, like accounting or law or automotive or insurance and financial services and landscaping and whatever, whole bunch of different fields. But if you have those skills that I was just describing, no matter what field you enter in a short period of time, you can become active in it and known within it, and respected and serving in a leadership position and ultimately become one of the thought leaders and primary players in that field. Even if your technical expertise in that field is limited, you can literally reach the top 1% of your chosen niche in a short period of time. Now, if you don't have the guidance to do it strategically, it could take you five to 10 years to do that with dedicated application of an hour, a day or longer. But with my strategic guidance, I can show you how in a matter of just a couple of years to rise from unknown to really well known and involved and influential in your chosen field. What's the purpose of it? I used to belong to a group called Speakers Round table and it's 20 people from the very, very top of the profession of speaking professional speakers, authors and experts. And I was in that for 29 years with some of the most amazing people in the world. Self made multimillionaires, best selling authors, hall of fame speakers, you know, really substantial people. And as I said, I was in it for almost 30 years and in intimately involved, close friends with all the other members. Well, Speakers Rounds Roundtable still goes on today and I, when I would tell people about Speakers Roundtable. They would say, man, I'd like to be a fly on the wall in one of those meetings.
